ZKsync X Account Hacked to Promote Fake Token Airdrop: Users Urged to Stay Vigilant

In the latest reminder of persistent security risks in the crypto industry, the official ZKsync account on X (formerly Twitter) was briefly compromised to promote a fraudulent token airdrop.
The unauthorized post, which circulated for around 15 minutes before being taken down, falsely claimed that all followers were eligible to claim a portion of ZKsync’s token supply. It directed users to a suspicious website—distribution-zksync.io—designed to lure users into potentially dangerous interactions.
While ZKsync has yet to release an official statement confirming the breach, the incident adds to a growing list of social media compromises targeting blockchain and cryptocurrency projects. As of now, there appears to be no immediate impact on the price of the ZK token, though longer-term consequences may depend on how quickly the platform responds and reassures its community.
Cybersecurity analysts have reiterated their warnings for users to exercise caution, especially when prompted to connect wallets or share personal data through unofficial channels. Impersonation scams and phishing attacks via social platforms have become increasingly common, particularly in connection with highly anticipated token launches or ecosystem expansions.
The breach also underscores the urgent need for stronger account security measures across Web3 projects. Social media remains a powerful communication tool for crypto communities, but its centralized nature can leave even well-established accounts vulnerable to hijacking if basic safeguards—such as multi-factor authentication—are not rigorously enforced.
