Zilliqa 2.0 Launches with Full EVM Support, Proof-of-Stake, and Institutional-Ready Features

Zilliqa has officially rolled out its long-awaited 2.0 upgrade, marking a major transformation in the blockchain’s architecture and capabilities. The update brings full Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, a new Proof-of-Stake consensus model, and infrastructure tailored for institutional use—all designed to position Zilliqa for the next phase of blockchain adoption.
The transition follows a rigorous six-month test phase during which 21 external validators processed over 7.5 million blocks and completed 15 client updates. With the upgrade now live, Zilliqa is offering developers, enterprises, and crypto users a more flexible, secure, and scalable platform.
One of the most significant enhancements is EVM compatibility. Developers can now deploy Ethereum-native smart contracts directly on Zilliqa with minimal adjustments, opening the door to seamless cross-ecosystem development and more robust decentralized applications (dApps).
The overhaul also introduces a modular design, enabling customizable network components, future scalability, and better fault tolerance. Additional upgrades include support for tokenized assets, verifiable smart contracts, cross-chain communication, and compliance-aligned DeFi protocols.
Zilliqa 2.0’s staking system has been redesigned to simplify validator onboarding and incentivize early adopters who migrate from the 1.0 network. This strategic shift is aimed at consolidating liquidity on the upgraded chain while maintaining performance and reliability.
Looking ahead, the roadmap includes features such as smart accounts, zero-knowledge proofs, and tools for digital identity and privacy-preserving compliance—key elements for enterprise-grade blockchain applications.
Early ecosystem partners include LTIN and deBridge, which is working to bring native USDC to the network. Initial projects are already underway in areas such as regulated DeFi, tokenized finance, and fintech infrastructure.
The upgrade comes after version 1.0 faced periods of instability, including validator issues and service disruptions. With its new architecture, Zilliqa 2.0 aims to address those challenges head-on.
Alexander Zahnd, interim CEO of Zilliqa, framed the upgrade as a foundational shift in the platform’s mission.
“We’re building the blockchain institutions can trust without compromising on the speed, flexibility, or openness that brought us here in the first place,” Zahnd said. “The next era of blockchain won’t be built on hype. It’ll be built on trust, transparency, and technical excellence. That’s what Zilliqa 2.0 stands for.”
Zilliqa’s move to version 2.0 signals more than just a technical refresh—it represents a strategic realignment toward enterprise-ready blockchain solutions. With EVM compatibility and a future-facing infrastructure, Zilliqa is setting the stage for broader adoption and long-term relevance in the evolving Web3 landscape.
