Ripple stated that current assets remain secure but warned preparation timelines now matter as capabilities advance. The XRP Ledger, launched in 2012, underpins XRP, which carries a market capitalization near $100 billion.

“There’s a more subtle risk too, one researchers call ‘harvest now, decrypt later,’” Ripple said in its announcement. The firm explained that attackers could store encrypted blockchain data today and decrypt it once quantum systems mature. “The findings don’t point to an immediate break,” Ripple added, “but systems securing long-lived value need to start planning for a post-quantum transition.”

Still, not all market participants agree on the severity of the threat. Strategy chairman Michael Saylor has downplayed quantum risks, reflecting a broader divide between immediate mitigation and deferred upgrades.
