Resurfaced 2022 arrest footage of WLFI co-founder Zach Witkoff is amplifying scrutiny as a high-stakes legal dispute with Justin Sun escalates. The timing adds reputational pressure to an already contentious fight over token control and alleged coercive practices.
The footage, circulated on X, shows Witkoff detained outside a Miami nightclub on New Year’s Day 2022. Police charged him with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and felony possession after officers reported finding cocaine during a search. Court records indicate the felony charge and one resisting count were later dismissed, and Witkoff pleaded not guilty.

Does Legal Pressure Threaten WLFI Token Stability?
The renewed attention coincides with a lawsuit filed by Justin Sun, who alleges World Liberty Financial froze 4 billion WLFI tokens he acquired in September. Sun claims the project pressured him to remove tokens from circulation and threatened governance actions that could erase his holdings. At current levels near $0.08 (per CoinGecko), those assets are valued at roughly $318 million.
Sun’s complaint also alleges attempts to manage selling pressure and stabilize WLFI’s price, including restricting large holders and taking out stablecoin loans against the token. He further claims he was accused of contributing to a 40% price decline, while denying any role in short-selling activity.
“A desperate attempt to deflect attention from Sun’s own misconduct,” Witkoff said on X, rejecting the claims as “entirely meritless.”
World Liberty Financial echoed that stance, stating the allegations are baseless and that the matter will be contested in court.
Still, the overlap between legal claims and resurfaced personal history raises a key question: can WLFI maintain investor confidence as both legal and reputational risks converge? The next catalyst will be court disclosures, particularly any unredacted filings that clarify governance control and token supply mechanisms.
