Velora Launches VLR Token and Expands to Base Amid 2025 Crypto Rebranding Surge

Velora, the project formerly known as ParaSwap, has officially introduced VLR, a governance and staking token that will replace the old PSP token on a 1:1 basis. But this is more than just a ticker change—Velora is positioning VLR as the engine of a broader protocol evolution, with its launch tightly integrated into a strategic expansion to Coinbase’s Base network.

This move adds Velora to a growing list of Web3 platforms rebranding and retooling in 2025, as the crypto industry repositions around scalability, utility, and regulatory adaptability.

Velora Unveils VLR and Makes Its Move to Base

Unlike many cosmetic rebrands, Velora’s shift comes with concrete infrastructure updates. The new VLR token introduces staking rewards directly tied to user-supplied liquidity, aiming to drive deeper engagement and protocol participation. In total, 10% of VLR’s supply has been allocated to incentivize migration and ecosystem growth.

To ease the transition, Velora is rolling out a frictionless migration tool: a one-click interface that lets PSP holders convert to VLR and bridge to Base without incurring gas fees. This migration window remains open for three months, offering users flexibility while maintaining forward momentum.

“Velora’s decision to expand to Base is strategic,” the team stated. “It offers reduced gas costs, faster execution, and strong alignment with the broader Superchain ecosystem.”

Base’s positioning as a scalable Ethereum Layer-2, integrated into Coinbase’s growing suite of infrastructure, makes it a natural destination for projects aiming to reduce friction and scale efficiently.

The 2025 Crypto Rebrand Wave Gains Momentum

Velora’s rebrand fits squarely within a larger trend sweeping the blockchain space. From EOS (now "A") to MakerDAO’s pivot to SKY, the current wave of rebranding has been driven by three key factors:

  1. Regulatory Reset: A fresh ticker can help distance projects from legacy token-sale risk or outdated compliance frameworks.
  2. Narrative Realignment: New names better reflect technical roadmaps, such as Maker’s “Endgame” or Fantom’s “Sonic” chain.
  3. Market Psychology: A clean rebrand can reignite community engagement—EOS, for instance, saw a 19% rally after its announcement.

Even traditional firms like MicroStrategy, now rebranded as “Strategy,” are engaging in identity resets as crypto matures into broader institutional relevance.

Still, as Binance Research cautions, not all rebrands are created equal:

“While some projects rebrand for valid strategic reasons, others may use it as a smokescreen to obscure past decisions or lacking utility.”
