USDT0 Expands To Tempo With Omnichain Liquidity Model

USDT0 has surpassed $70 billion in cumulative transaction volume within its first year, underscoring demand for interoperable stablecoin liquidity. Its latest deployment on Tempo adds a payments-focused blockchain to an expanding cross-chain footprint.

The omnichain stablecoin, backed 1:1 by Tether’s USDT, is now live on Tempo, a Layer 1 network co-developed by Stripe and Paradigm. USDT0 uses LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token standard, enabling transfers through a lock-and-mint or burn mechanism rather than traditional bridging. Tempo’s deployment marks the 23rd network integration for USDT0, following launches across Ethereum, Layer 2s, and Bitcoin scaling layers.

Can Omnichain Stablecoins Simplify Cross-Chain Payments?

The integration reflects a broader push to reduce fragmentation in stablecoin liquidity across networks. Traditional bridging solutions often introduce latency, cost, and security risks, while omnichain designs aim for consistent behavior across environments. USDT0’s rapid growth to $70 billion in volume compares with earlier cross-chain stablecoin efforts that struggled to achieve similar scale within comparable timeframes.

Lorenzo R., co-founder of USDT0, said Tempo offers “predictable settlement” and infrastructure aligned with institutional requirements. Tempo executive Nischay Upadhyayula added that the network is designed for environments where capital must move quickly, with built-in mechanisms for stablecoin swaps at the protocol level. But can a unified liquidity model eliminate the need for fragmented pools across chains?

Tempo positions itself as a payments-first blockchain, emphasizing stable fee structures and high throughput. Its architecture includes an embedded automated market maker to facilitate native stablecoin exchanges. The addition of USDT0 introduces direct access to dollar liquidity without requiring developers to manage multiple bridge integrations.

The rollout follows Tether’s strategic investment in LayerZero Labs earlier this year, reinforcing alignment between stablecoin issuance and cross-chain infrastructure. Market participants will now monitor whether Tempo can attract payment flows at scale, particularly as stablecoin competition intensifies across both Layer 1 and Layer 2 ecosystems.
