TON Cancels Dubai Gateway Event Amid Security Risks

TON has cancelled its Gateway Dubai ecosystem conference scheduled for May 1–2. The decision reflects rising security concerns in the United Arab Emirates following escalating military activity across the Middle East.

Organizers confirmed the cancellation in a statement posted on X Thursday. The event was designed to gather developers and ecosystem participants working across the TON network’s applications and infrastructure.

The conference was set to take place in Dubai, a major global hub for crypto startups and digital asset conferences. TON said the decision followed regional safety concerns tied to recent missile and drone strikes affecting parts of the UAE.

Will Regional Conflict Disrupt Crypto’s Dubai Hub?

The cancellation comes shortly after military escalation involving Iran and allied forces targeting regional infrastructure. Reports indicate the UAE has experienced significant strike activity linked to the conflict.

Dubai has become one of the most active locations for crypto industry gatherings. Developers, venture investors, and exchanges frequently host conferences there due to favorable regulatory policies and global connectivity.

Still, travel disruptions have spread across the region in recent days. Airlines have altered flight routes and some business events have reassessed safety logistics.

“Due to the Middle East conflict and safety conditions in the UAE area, we have made the decision to cancel Gateway Dubai,” TON said in its statement.

The organization added that protecting community participants remained the primary consideration.

TON organizers said they are exploring alternative formats for a Gateway event later in 2026. Potential options include virtual gatherings or relocating the conference to another region.

Not all crypto events in Dubai have changed course. The major industry conference Token2049, scheduled for next month, is still expected to proceed according to event organizers.

The next indicator for the sector may come from whether additional crypto conferences modify schedules as geopolitical tensions continue to affect travel and security planning across the region.
