Solana is introducing a formal security evaluation layer for protocols exceeding $10 million in total value locked (TVL). The move signals a shift toward standardized risk assessment as institutional capital increasingly enters decentralized finance (DeFi).
The Solana Foundation announced Monday it is funding new ecosystem-wide security initiatives led by Asymmetric Research. The centerpiece is STRIDE, or Solana Trust, Resilience and Infrastructure for DeFi Enterprises, a structured program designed to monitor and evaluate protocol security. Projects passing evaluation thresholds will receive ongoing operational security support and threat monitoring.

Can STRIDE Establish A Benchmark For DeFi Security?
STRIDE introduces tiered incentives tied directly to protocol scale and risk exposure. Protocols with more than $10 million in TVL qualify for continuous monitoring, while those exceeding $100 million gain access to formal smart contract verification tools. By comparison, most DeFi ecosystems rely on one-time audits rather than continuous evaluation frameworks, leaving gaps in post-deployment security oversight.

Asymmetric Research will independently assess projects using its proprietary framework, with results made सार्वजनिक for users and investors. Founding participants in the parallel Solana Incident Response Network (SIRN) include OtterSec and Neodyme, forming a coordinated response layer for ecosystem threats.
“Solana Foundation has a long history of dedicating resources to ensure that security services and tools are available to the ecosystem, and today's announcement further strengthens that commitment,” the foundation said in its blog post.
It added that these initiatives are designed to support, not replace, internal protocol security practices.
Still, the effectiveness of STRIDE will depend on adoption among high-TVL protocols and the transparency of its evaluation outputs. Market participants will watch whether publicly available security scores influence capital allocation decisions across Solana-based DeFi.
The next catalyst will be the first wave of STRIDE assessments and whether leading protocols opt in, providing a test case for standardized, continuous security monitoring in DeFi.
