The company is reportedly in advanced talks to raise around $400 million, with Toronto-based growth equity firm Georgian expected to lead the round. The discussions are ongoing, and the final terms may still change. Both Replit and Georgian declined to comment.
From Coding Platform to AI Agent Pioneer
Founded about a decade ago, Replit has evolved from an online coding environment into a prominent player in what many developers call “vibecoding”—using AI to translate ideas directly into working software. Its tools are designed for both experienced engineers and beginners, lowering the barrier to building and shipping applications.
In September, Replit raised $250 million at a $3 billion valuation, nearly tripling its worth from the previous round. Its investors include Amex Ventures, Google’s AI Futures Fund, and Bloomberg Beta, the venture capital arm of Bloomberg LP.
Expanding AI’s Role in App Creation
Replit has continued to push beyond code generation. In 2024, the company introduced an AI agent capable of not only writing code but also deploying full software applications—an early move in a rapidly evolving space.
This week, Replit unveiled an updated version of that agent, enabling users to build Android and iOS mobile appssimply by describing what they want the app to do. The tool can also handle publishing to app stores with minimal manual work, opening the door to creating mobile games, productivity tools, and small online storefronts without traditional development workflows.
A Crowded and Competitive Market
The race to automate software development is intensifying. Major technology players such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Microsoft all offer AI tools aimed at boosting developer productivity. Meanwhile, rival startup Cursor was recently valued at $29.3 billion, highlighting how quickly valuations in the sector are climbing.
