PayPal to Acquire Cymbio, Expanding Agentic Commerce Tools for AI-Driven Shopping

PayPal Holdings Inc. has announced plans to acquire Cymbio, a Tel Aviv-based platform that helps merchants list and sell products across various AI-powered chatbots. While the financial details remain undisclosed, the acquisition is expected to close in the first half of this year.

This move is PayPal’s latest step in strengthening its agentic commerce offerings—a suite of tools designed to help merchants connect with consumers who are increasingly using AI chatbots to discover and purchase products. Just last October, PayPal launched a set of services aimed at helping businesses adapt as AI-enabled shopping gains traction in the retail world.

Through platforms like Cymbio, PayPal enables merchants to manage product catalogs and orders across multiple AI-driven channels. These tools are promoted as ways for businesses to expand their reach, improve brand visibility, and maintain control over how their products appear in agent-initiated transactions.

Several well-known retailers, including Abercrombie & Fitch, Fabletics, and Ashley Furniture, are already using PayPal’s agentic commerce tools on platforms such as Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. PayPal also plans to roll out support for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini app, and AI-enhanced search features in the near future.

Michelle Gill, PayPal’s executive vice president and general manager of small business and financial services, commented, “By making their product catalogs discoverable on AI surfaces, merchants can increase sales while expanding product choice to the millions of consumers shopping on AI platforms today.”
