OpenLedger Launches OPEN Mainnet to Bring Transparent Data Attribution and Creator Payments to AI

OpenLedger has rolled out its OPEN Mainnet, introducing a decentralized network built to bring clear data provenance and automated contributor payments into the AI development process. The company says this model is becoming increasingly important as legal challenges, regulatory attention, and public concern continue to grow around how artificial intelligence systems collect and use training data.

With Tuesday’s launch, OpenLedger is formalizing what it calls “Payable AI.” The idea is simple. Users upload datasets into shared “datanets,” developers train models on those datasets, and smart contracts handle all compensation. It mirrors the economics of platforms like YouTube, but replaces videos with data contributions from researchers, writers, and subject matter experts who help train AI models.

The timing aligns with one of the industry’s biggest debates. Many AI companies face criticism for scraping public data without permission or payment. Public trust in AI has declined in recent years, and several high profile lawsuits against major players, including OpenAI and Google, have placed new pressure on the industry to rethink how training inputs are sourced and credited.

Proof of attribution and Payable AI

A core feature of the OPEN Mainnet is its “Proof of Attribution” system, which logs the provenance of every dataset, model, and agent directly onchain. Each AI output can be linked back to its contributors, creating a clear record for crediting data producers and routing payments automatically based on usage.

OpenLedger says this setup lets developers build AI agents without managing hosting or data custody. Payments are handled through the OPEN token, which distributes rewards along the attribution trail. The company describes its approach as “Data as a Shared Service,” giving data creators a way to participate in AI supply chains and earn income as models consume their work.

Backed by Polychain and Borderless Capital

OpenLedger previously raised an 8 million dollar seed round led by Polychain Capital and Borderless Capital. The company is positioning itself within a growing class of projects working at the intersection of web3 and AI, combining cryptographic verification with machine learning infrastructure.

OpenLedger’s leadership has emphasized in interviews that transparent data lineage could become a regulatory requirement as AI adoption expands and lawmakers scrutinize the industry’s training practices.

Meanwhile, the OPEN token, which launched in September and is listed on Binance, has followed the broader downturn in AI focused altcoins. According to CoinGecko data, the token currently trades more than 80 percent below its launch level.

As debates around AI transparency and fair compensation intensify, OpenLedger’s OPEN Mainnet aims to offer a structured way for creators to participate in the value AI generates. Its approach blends decentralized technology with AI workflows, setting the stage for a model where attribution and payment are not afterthoughts but foundational elements of the ecosystem.
