Istanbul Blockchain Week 2025 Breaks Records, Showcasing Türkiye’s Rising Role in Web3 Innovation

Istanbul Blockchain Week 2025 marked a major milestone for the global Web3 community, drawing record attendance and setting a high bar for future blockchain conferences. Held June 26–27 at the Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel, the two-day event highlighted Türkiye’s rapid ascent as a regional hub for blockchain innovation and talent.

Istanbul Blockchain Week
Istanbul Blockchain Week stands as a premier annual event, nestled in the vibrant heart of Istanbul — a city that bridges continents and cultures, where cryptocurrency and web3 already play a key part in the lives of its people.

Organized for the fourth time by EAK Digital, this year’s conference blended traditional keynotes and workshops with bold new formats, reflecting both the scale and evolving ambition of the event. With top-level speakers, forward-thinking panels, and immersive experiences, the gathering positioned Istanbul as a key player on the global blockchain map.

A High-Profile Lineup and Future-Focused Topics

Among the headline speakers were Justin Sun, founder of Tron; Mehmet Çamır, Chairman of OKX TR; John Linden, CEO of Mythical Games; and Marco Dal Lago, VP of Global Expansion at Tether. Discussions spanned stablecoins, real-world assets (RWAs), tokenized finance, AI agents, and regulatory frameworks—highlighting the sector’s broadening scope.

Justin Sun emphasized the importance of regulatory compliance in Tron’s stablecoin ecosystem, citing Türkiye as a valuable testbed for real-world adoption and potential sovereign applications.

"Türkiye is becoming increasingly significant for our ecosystem due to its active user base and openness to innovation," Sun said.

Mehmet Çamır echoed the sentiment, noting Türkiye’s estimated 14 million retail crypto users. He stressed the importance of investor protection and smart regulation to support sustainable growth in the sector.

Gaming, AI, and Real-World Assets Take Center Stage

John Linden spotlighted Türkiye’s strength in gaming, calling the market “green” and full of potential.

"We see incredible momentum here, not just in mobile and football games, but also in blockchain gaming infrastructure," he noted.

BlockDown Festival, a recurring highlight of the conference, debuted a revamped format this year—blending Web3 art and live AI-led performances in collaboration with Pudgy Penguins. It was a vivid display of how autonomous agents are being integrated into creative and entertainment sectors.

Two new additions—the RWA Builders Summit and DefaiCon Istanbul—brought tokenized real-world assets and decentralized finance into sharper focus, signaling a maturing infrastructure for institutional adoption.

Building Local Talent, Scaling Global Vision

In a notable announcement, Christian Thompson from the Sui Foundation introduced a developer bootcamp aimed at training 2,000 to 4,000 blockchain builders in Türkiye over the next 12 to 18 months. The initiative reflects a growing recognition of Türkiye as a rising talent hub in the Web3 space.

The momentum from Istanbul Blockchain Week echoes broader trends across the global crypto landscape. In June, ETHCC in Brussels saw Robinhood announce tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs for the European market, complete with 24/5 trading and on-chain dividends on Arbitrum. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin also raised key concerns about Web3 architecture, calling attention to risks around Layer 2 security and token governance.
