Google Vids Adds AI Avatars and Image-to-Video Tools to Simplify Video Creation

Google is expanding its video creation platform, Google Vids, with a wave of new AI-powered tools designed to make professional-quality video production easier, faster, and more accessible. The updates aim to remove common barriers like complicated software, costly production, and the pressure of appearing on camera.

Since its launch, Google Vids has quickly gained traction, surpassing one million monthly active users, reflecting strong demand for simple, intuitive video-making solutions.

AI Brings Photos and Scripts to Life

Among the standout additions is image-to-video generation, powered by Google’s Veo AI. Users can now upload a static photo—such as a product shot—and transform it into an animated, eight-second video complete with sound, simply by entering a short prompt. The feature is tailored for creating engaging social media content, marketing assets, or presentations in minutes.

For those reluctant to step in front of the camera, AI avatars offer an alternative. Users write a script, select a digital presenter, and the avatar delivers the content. The tool is well-suited for training videos, internal updates, and product demos, providing consistent quality without the hassle of filming.

To streamline editing, Google Vids now includes automatic transcript trimming, which removes filler words and awkward pauses. Additional features from Google Meet, such as noise cancellation, custom backgrounds, and appearance filters, will roll out next month. Support for portrait and square formats is also on the way, helping creators optimize content for multiple platforms.

Lowering the Barriers to Entry

Google is making Vids more widely available by expanding access to Workspace business and education users, while offering a free basic editor to all consumers. The free version includes templates for tutorials, event invites, and more, ensuring entry-level creators can still produce polished results.

To help users get started, Google has launched “Vids on Vids,” a tutorial series that walks through features, workflows, and best practices for making professional-looking content quickly.

Businesses Already Seeing Results

Early adopters are reporting meaningful benefits. Mercer International, a global manufacturing firm, has used Google Vids to create safety training materials in-house, avoiding the expense of outsourcing production. CIO Alistair Skey praised the platform for enabling the company to “develop and curate content internally” at lower cost.

Meanwhile, Forest Donovan from data platform Fullstory highlighted the speed advantage: “The amount of high-gloss content we can create in hours versus weeks has been astounding.”
