The installation, spotted on 3rd Street in Washington, D.C., was funded by a group of cryptocurrency investors. According to local outlet ABC7 News, the collective said the display was meant to celebrate the Federal Reserve’s recent decision to cut interest rates—a move they believe will strengthen Bitcoin’s appeal.
“The installation is designed to ignite conversation about the future of government-issued currency and is a symbol of the intersection between modern politics and financial innovation,” said Hichem Zaghdoudi, a representative for the organizers.
He added that they hope the statue prompts reflection on how cryptocurrency is shaping global finance.
The artwork also served as a nod to Trump’s stance on digital assets. During his presidency, Trump repeatedly pushed for looser monetary policy and often criticized Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for not cutting rates aggressively enough. While Powell resisted political pressure to safeguard the Fed’s independence, Trump’s calls for cheaper borrowing costs mirrored the kind of economic environment that often benefits risk assets like stocks and cryptocurrencies.

Interest rates play a crucial role in financial markets. When rates fall, traditional investments such as bonds become less attractive, while riskier assets—like Bitcoin—can see inflows as investors search for higher returns. Lower borrowing costs also make leveraged positions more appealing, adding to the speculative appetite in markets.
The statue was a temporary installation, visible to the public between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on September 17. Its striking imagery—a gilded Trump clutching a Bitcoin—captured the convergence of politics, economics, and crypto culture in a single display.

Whether viewed as political theater, financial commentary, or simply a publicity stunt, the golden Trump statue succeeded in its aim: to spark conversation about the evolving role of cryptocurrency in today’s economy.
