Ethereum Staking Hits 47050 ETH As Foundation Shifts

The Ethereum Foundation has staked 47,050 Ether (ETH), worth about $96.6 million, surpassing two-thirds of its 70,000 ETH target, according to Arkham Intelligence. The rapid deployment marks a shift toward yield generation over asset sales.

The foundation began staking less than two weeks ago and accelerated allocations this week with two large deposits of 22,517 ETH each. The move follows an initial February deployment of 2,016 ETH, as part of a broader treasury strategy update announced for 2025.

Is Ethereum Foundation Ending Its Reliance On ETH Sales?

The staking initiative reflects a structural change in how the foundation manages its reserves. Historically, it relied on periodic ETH sales to fund operations, including a 10,000 ETH sale in September valued at roughly $43 million at the time.

Now, staking and decentralized finance (DeFi) deployments are being prioritized to generate recurring income. Compared to earlier treasury actions, the current pace of allocations suggests a more active approach to capital management rather than episodic liquidity events.

The foundation has also conducted private sales in recent months, including a 5,000 ETH transaction with BitMine Immersion Technologies and a prior 10,000 ETH deal with SharpLink Gaming. These transactions indicate that while staking is increasing, asset sales have not fully disappeared from its funding toolkit.

The strategic shift aligns with the foundation’s stated role as a network steward rather than a centralized authority. Its updated mandate emphasizes supporting ecosystem growth while maintaining operational sustainability through diversified revenue streams.

Ethereum traded near $2,050 on the day, according to price data, showing limited immediate market reaction. The next catalyst will be whether the foundation completes its 70,000 ETH staking target and expands allocations into additional yield-generating strategies.
