Crypto Swaps Settle In Under A Minute

A median crypto swap on ChangeNOW now settles in under 60 seconds. That execution speed sharply contrasts with the broader non-custodial market, where comparable swaps still take about 45 minutes.

The data comes from the 2026 edition of “Speed Benchmarks: Non-Custodial Swaps Comparison,” published by Swapzone. The report analyzed roughly 150,000 completed transactions and found the typical USDT-to-ETH swap across platforms requires about 45 minutes to finalize. ChangeNOW recorded a median settlement time below one minute for the same pair.

Seven months earlier, the platform had already led Swapzone’s mid-2025 benchmark. At that time, ChangeNOW averaged about 1.8 minutes per swap, narrowly ahead of Changelly at roughly two minutes.

Why Does Swap Settlement Speed Matter In Crypto?

Latency carries direct trading risk in digital asset markets. Prices often move quickly, meaning users who wait 30 or 45 minutes for a swap may receive an outcome far from the quoted rate. But what happens when execution shrinks to seconds instead of minutes?

Infrastructure choices appear central to the gap. According to the Swapzone report, ChangeNOW routes liquidity across multiple venues and prioritizes shorter confirmation paths to compress settlement windows. The platform consistently completes high-volume pairs such as ETH/USDT or SOL/USDT before several competitors confirm the inbound deposit.

“At ChangeNOW, we consider speed to be a fundamental pillar of user trust,” said Pauline Shangett, chief strategy officer at the company.

She added that reducing latency aims to remove barriers between traders and their funds while pushing near-instant settlement toward an industry norm.

Rapid settlement could also shift expectations for non-custodial trading services. Many decentralized and aggregator-style platforms emphasize custody and security advantages, but transaction time has remained a persistent friction point for users seeking real-time execution.

Market competition is likely to intensify as more exchanges pursue faster routing and infrastructure upgrades. The next catalyst will be whether rival non-custodial platforms can narrow the gap or if sub-minute settlement becomes a new baseline for crypto swap services.
