Coinbase Stock Perpetuals Expand Global Derivatives Offering

Coinbase has launched stock perpetual futures tied to major U.S. equities, extending 24/7 trading access to global users. The move deepens its push to unify crypto and traditional assets within a single derivatives venue.

The products are available to eligible users outside the United States and include exposure to companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Nvidia, Meta, and Tesla. Exchange-traded fund contracts linked to indices like the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 are also offered in select jurisdictions. Positions can be traded with up to 10x leverage for stocks and 20x for ETFs, with settlement conducted in USD Coin (USDC).

Can Stock Perpetuals Bridge Crypto And TradFi Markets?

The rollout positions Coinbase among the first centralized exchanges to offer equity-based perpetual futures, a structure more commonly seen on decentralized platforms. Unlike traditional equity markets with fixed trading hours, these contracts operate continuously, including weekends. This feature addresses demand in regions where access to U.S. equities remains limited or capital-intensive.

The launch builds on Coinbase’s broader derivatives expansion strategy. The company recently introduced crypto futures products across 26 European countries through its MiFID-regulated entity. It also developed hybrid instruments such as the “Mag7 + Crypto Equity Index,” reflecting increasing overlap between digital assets and traditional financial exposure.

Coinbase said the new instruments are part of its “everything exchange” strategy, aiming to consolidate multiple asset classes into one trading environment. The platform supports cross-margining between spot and derivatives positions, improving capital efficiency for both retail and institutional users. Does round-the-clock access to equities change how global portfolios are constructed?

The product remains unavailable to U.S. users and may face restrictions in certain jurisdictions. Coinbase plans to expand the lineup to include additional equities, commodities, and indices, making regulatory response and user adoption key variables to watch in the next phase.
