Bitmain Technologies, the world’s leading producer of cryptocurrency mining hardware, is gearing up to establish its first major facility in the United States—a bold step that reflects shifting trade dynamics and growing geopolitical focus on the crypto sector.
The China-based tech giant plans to open a combined headquarters and assembly plant in either Texas or Florida by the end of the third quarter of 2025. Production is set to begin in early 2026, with around 250 American workers trained in equipment assembly and on-site maintenance, according to Bitmain's global business head, Irene Gao.
This move aligns with the broader U.S. effort to bring critical tech manufacturing back home. Once seen as a fringe activity, cryptocurrency mining is increasingly viewed as strategically significant—alongside sectors like semiconductors and renewable energy.
Gao acknowledged that operating in the U.S. comes with higher labor costs, but emphasized the benefits of faster delivery and localized support for American customers. “The U.S. push for Bitcoin supremacy represents a unique opportunity,” she said, referencing rising political interest in domestic crypto infrastructure.
That interest is also being fueled by the 2024 presidential race. Former President Donald Trump has pledged to prioritize Bitcoin mining if re-elected. His sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., recently launched American Bitcoin Corp., partnering with mining firm Hut 8 and others. In late 2024, Hut 8 placed a significant order for over 31,000 Bitmain machines, signaling ongoing demand for the company’s technology.
Despite Bitmain’s global dominance since 2013, the U.S. market hasn’t always been easy. The company has faced customs delays and regulatory scrutiny—especially targeting its AI division. Still, it remains uncertain whether similar oversight will extend to its crypto hardware business.
As American miners gain political backing and China’s influence wanes, Bitmain’s expansion appears less about geography and more about future-proofing its role in a rapidly evolving industry.
