A16z Crypto Opens South Korea Office as Firm Expands Its Asia Presence

A16z crypto, the digital-asset arm of Andreessen Horowitz, is deepening its footprint in Asia with a new office in Seoul. The firm confirmed the move in a press announcement, calling South Korea one of the world’s most active markets for onchain activity. The region’s broader momentum also played a role, with strong retail engagement across Japan, Singapore, and India.

The company pointed to South Korea’s fast-growing crypto landscape, noting that nearly one in three adults in the country now owns digital assets. That level of adoption, the firm said, makes the market a natural starting point for its expansion.

Anthony Albanese, managing partner and COO of a16z crypto, said the new office will help the firm support founders who are trying to grow across Asia. He added that the team will focus on helping portfolio companies establish partnerships, reach users, and build stronger communities in the region.

To lead the push, a16z appointed Sungmo Park, previously APAC lead at Monad and Polygon. Park said he plans to use his industry network and regional experience to help founders navigate Asia’s varied markets. In a post on X, he wrote that the goal is to give startups not only access to new audiences but also the local insights needed to scale responsibly and effectively.

A16z crypto has become one of the most active backers of blockchain innovation, funding projects such as Aptos, Dapper Labs, EigenLayer, and Yuga Labs. According to the firm’s website, it has raised more than $7.6 billion across four dedicated crypto funds.

The new Seoul office is a sign that major venture players continue to see long-term potential in Asia’s crypto ecosystem. For founders in the region, it may open the door to more support, more connections, and a clearer path to global reach.
